‘Pancake School’ Teaches Kids Positive, Insightful Lessons About Overcoming Challenges
MODESTO, Calif., Jan. 15, 2025 — Wouldn't it be great if navigating life’s challenges were as simple as flipping a pancake? In her delightful children’s book, Grandma Magic’s Pancake School, prolific author Debbie Wolski shares gentle lessons about emotional balance, kindness and self-esteem through a charming tale of woodland characters who inhabit Grandma Magic's tree house. Therein lies Pancake School, where “flip the pancake right” is the only rule! The aspiring young chefs, including Tyler T. Turtle and Twilly the Filly, must overcome challenges and learn from their mistakes to make a perfect batch of pancakes.
“An important takeaway is not to underestimate our children or their mental capacities,” Wolski said. “They can understand and absorb more than we give them credit for. Instilling these simple tools (messages in the books) as early as possible can help propel our society into the peaceful, inclusive world we’re hoping for.”
Recommended for children ages 3-12, Grandma Magic’s Pancake School is the first in a nine-book series connected by a common thread of positive, insightful lessons for little minds. The book includes Grandma Magic’s pancake recipe, so readers can whip up their own batch of fun and learning!
“I vividly recall the children’s book from the ’50s called The Little Engine That Could. I believed it, and the positive impact I experienced helped me overcome many obstacles in life,” Wolski added. “I hope to have the same lasting effect with Grandma Magic’s messages.”

About the Author
At 71, Debbie Wolski is healthier, happier and stronger than ever. In 1973, a diagnosis of severe scoliosis, with a 35-degree rotation, prompted her to dive into a personal yoga practice instead of having a risky surgery that came with warnings instead of guarantees. She is an artist working mostly with acrylics for murals and watercolors. A Central Valley California native, she opened Modesto’s first yoga studio in 2000. She taught yoga and Pilates at Modesto Junior College for 12 years, and at Modesto Community College for 24 years. Wolski loves helping people and eliminating pain from their lives — whether it’s physical, mental or emotional pain — she will do her best to find the root cause and address it.
