Creating the Perfect Nursery

Are you expecting a baby, or is someone close to you expecting one? If so, congratulations! This is such an exciting time and I bet you are just dreaming up your plans for the future - including creating the perfect nursery. If so, you are in the right place because that’s what I want to talk about today: the nursery. Creating the perfect nursery is fun, stressful, emotional, and really, really exciting. There are so many things to think about and that’s why it brings up a myriad of emotions. If you are just starting working towards creating your nursery, then keep reading along because here are my best tips when doing so:

The Wall Colors
The wall colors are always hard to figure out when creating the perfect nursery. Do you know the gender? Do you want to go neutral? Or, do you want to do your pop of color(s) starting with the walls? There is a lot to think about when it comes to painting the walls. Personally, I prefer to go neutral - with a light grey, or a white (or off-white) because it allows me to do more with the furniture and decor compared to if you go with a brighter color on the walls. If you do not know the gender, this is also really beneficial because then you do not have to decide what gender-neutral pop of color to go with. When you do decide on a color, I highly recommend going in-store to pick it out after viewing swatches. If you have any furniture that you really want to match to a paint color, bring in something that matches that furniture piece.

The Crib + Crib Mattress
When it comes to the crib, it’s really important that you pick safe items because your baby will be spending a good amount of his, or her time in the crib - especially over the first year! Your crib should ideally be solid wood compared to manufactured boards such as MDF and particleboard, which often emit formaldehyde from the glues used. Second of all, you need a good mattress that lasts a long time so that multiple children can sleep on it and then still be passed down to a family member to use with their baby or babies. Second of all, your mattress needs to be safe. So, this means choosing a mattress that is firm (all baby mattresses will be), but also breathable, organic, and non-toxic. One thing that you probably didn’t know about mattresses is that sometimes when it says “waterproof,” it can actually be coated in plastic or another ingredient that will not make the mattress breathable anymore. Interesting, right? So, do your research before choosing the crib and crib mattress.

Other Sleep Essentials
Other sleep essentials are important, too. For example, are you going to use a bassinet for the first little bit? If so, I highly recommend the SNOO. While it is expensive, it can really help your infant learn about great sleep and trust me - you will be very thankful as a sleep-deprived parent, as well. The SNOO was developed by Happiest Baby and Dr. Harvey (a leading pediatrician) that has a ton of experience when it comes to sleep, especially in the first three months. Other essentials you will need are sheets, pajamas, and pacifiers.

Baby Clothes
The best part - baby clothes!! When you are searching for baby clothes, I highly recommend checking out By George Baby. If you are looking to stock up on baby winter clothing, blankets and accessories, pajamas, and more, they are your go-to spot. By George Baby is a boutique baby and toddler clothing store. They feature luxury brands that are loved by many such as The Proper Peony, Bella Bliss, Kissy Kissy, and so much more! Although they are located in Fair Haven, NJ, if you are not local to the New Jersey area, you can also purchase online and they accept many forms of payment, including PayPal, which is always so nice. When it comes to stocking up your baby or babies closet and room, check out By George Baby for high-quality clothes and accessories!

Toys and More
When it comes to toys for your nursery, and home in general, I usually opt for a few high-quality toys that will stand the test of time vs. a bunch of inexpensive, plastic toys. Not only do these higher-quality toys look better, but they are also better for your child too.
