Winter may be just around the corner, but that’s no reason to curl up at home and hibernate in front of Netflix for the next few months. In fact, if you embrace the winter, you might realize that it’s actually quite an enjoyable time of year. One great way to embrace the colder months is to jet off to some of the world’s destinations that are considered to be winter wonderlands. Here are a few that could inspire you to do more traveling despite the cold weather!
Lapland, Finland
One of the most obvious destinations for winter fun has to be the Lapland region of Finland. After all, this is where Santa Clause lives! If you will be traveling with kids, then you will no doubt want to visit Santa in his grotto. But this destination isn’t just for kids, though, as there’s plenty for adults to enjoy too. If you are feeling adventurous, you might want to stay in one of the region’s hotels that are made entirely out of ice and snow. It’s also a great landscape for exploring on a snowmobile!
Whistler, Canada
When you think of traveling during the winter season, there is one trip that will obviously spring to mind - a ski vacation! It’s worth checking out sites like Destination Ski before you book to figure out the best location to head to. However, there aren’t many ski destinations that can trump Whistler in Canada. It is one of the world’s largest ski areas, and there are many different slopes suitable for all kinds of skill level. Don’t worry if you’ve never skied before, most of the resorts will offer full lessons for beginners.
Vienna, Austria
One of the best things about winter has to be Christmas, right? Well, if you love Christmas, you will absolutely adore Austria’s capital city, Vienna. It turns into a Christmas wonderland as soon as December hits, and its city center is taken over by lots of cute Christmas markets. There will be stalls selling mulled wine and lots of other delicious local festive delicacies. Not only that, though, but I’m sure you’ll be able to find plenty of Christmas present inspiration at the markets as well!
Prague, Czech Republic
For another destination that really goes to town in December, it’s worth heading east to Prague in the Czech Republic. The city is steeped in history, and there is nothing better than wandering its narrow cobbled lanes when there is a thin covering of snow. You’ll also find various Christmas markets in the city, most of which haven’t changed for centuries.
Yosemite National Park, USA
Do you enjoy exploring nature when it's all snowy? If so, you should visit Yosemite National Park to witness its breathtaking landscapes covered in a blanket of snow. There’s plenty of opportunities to go skiing and snowshoeing through the park too, so it’s a great option if you want an active vacation.
So, where will you head off to this winter? Make sure it’s one of these winter wonderlands!
I love the snow! What an awesome list!
